PROVIDENCE – The Lincoln School has received a $4.5 million donation, the largest gift in school’s history, to kick start the all girls academy’s campus improvement campaign.

Given by an anonymous donor, the money will be used on campus improvements as well as to strengthen the school’s “innovative” curriculum and teaching practices, the school said.

“A gift of this magnitude speaks to the strength of the Lincoln School community,” said Suzanne Fogarty, head of school, in a statement Monday. “This gift is a testament to the power of an all-girls education, and will have a lasting impact on our school that will be felt for generations to come.”

The school said that $3 million of the gift will act as seed funding for the December 2019 $5 million campus improvement campaign which will focus on both the Little and Lower schools.

Still in the planning stages, Ashley Rappa, Lincoln School spokeswoman, could not detail any projects included in the improvements campaign.

The remainder of the $4.5 million gift will be spent on an “as needed basis” said Rappa.

Monday’s $4.5 million gift marks the school’s third $1 million-plus gift in the past three years, according to the school.
