Historic Zechariah Chafee House sells for $1.1M

PROVIDENCE – The historic Zechariah Chafee House on the East Side of Providence sold recently, for $1.1 million.

The house at 5 Cooke St. was originally built in 1852 and had a series of subsequent renovations and additions. It was built for Chafee, who was treasurer of the Sprague Manufacturing Co., and later was the home of a well-known architect, Albert Harkness.

The house is a Victorian design with a mansard roof. The interior includes period elements and modern amenities.

Listing agent was Rita Steel of Steele Realty Consultants. The buyer’s agent was Gerri Schiffman, of Residential Properties Ltd.
