BOSTON – Sales of single-family homes in Bristol County, Mass., fell 18 percent in September compared with the same time last year, while the number of sales statewide rose 7 percent, The Warren Group said Tuesday.
The real estate tracking firm said 183 single-family homes were sold in Bristol County in September, down from 224 during the same month in 2010.

While the number of sales declined, the median sales price for single-family homes rose 5 percent year-over-year during the month, from $234,950 to $248,000.
Across Massachusetts, the number of single-family homes sold rose from 3,267 to 3,482, while the statewide median price fell from $288,500 to $289,950.
“It’s encouraging to see another month of sales increases. However, sales volume remains low because we are comparing to a period last year when sales dropped off after the tax credits expired,” said The Warren Group CEO Timothy M. Warren Jr.
“At this rate, it is almost certain that 2011 sales volume will be one of the slowest years in recent memory,” he said.
Separately, figures from the Massachusetts Association of Realtors – which uses different sources to track home sales than The Warren Group – showed single-family home sales statewide rose 10 percent in September to 3,512 homes sold, compared with 3,194 last September.
During the same period, the median price of single family homes rose 2 percent in September, from $290,000 to $294,950.
The number of condominiums sold increased 9 percent in September compared with a year ago, the association said, while the median price of condominiums sold rose 5 percent to $272,000.
