LINCOLN – Hunter Insurance has launched a campaign to provide donations this year to 30 local nonprofits that have made a lasting impact on Rhode Island families, the company said.

Hunter said it is undertaking the “30 Initiative” campaign as a sign of its appreciation to the organizations and people that have helped the agency prosper and to commemorate the agency’s 30th anniversary. The company did not provide details about its donations, except to say it has “consistently donated large sums of money” to several nonprofits and charitable uses through the years.

“Successful businesses have a responsibility to be good corporate citizens, and we’ve been fortunate to have a supportive community that has helped Hunter Insurance grow into the company it is today,” said Brian Hunter, president of Hunter Insurance. “As a gesture of our appreciation to the community for their continued business and loyalty, we have decided to donate to local nonprofits that have made it their mission to help people every day.”

Founded in 1989, Hunter Insurance began offering insurance to New England families with just two employees. Today, the agency employs more than a dozen agents and it provides insurance products such as auto, home, and life insurance to more than 6,000 families in southeastern New England.

Five organizations have already benefited from the 30 Initiative this year: the Lincoln Little League, the Northern Council of the Arts, Keep the Heat On, Project Undercover, and Operation Stand Down Rhode Island.

The first donations, Hunter said, were presented to Keep the Heat On and to Project Undercover in January during the longest federal government shutdown in history. The organizations provided furloughed federal employees with basic items, such as diapers and socks for children, and funds to help them heat their homes.
