NEWPORT – Tobias Stapleton, director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for the past six years, will become dean of graduate studies at Salve Regina University in July.
According to the Newport-based, Catholic university, he has extensive experience in growing graduate enrollments, developing graduate and corporate training programs, and encouraging collaboration with industry.

The CIE, which began in 2001, has 23 startup companies this year that operate out of its facility. Under his leadership the center became noted for work in marine technology. It has operated independently of state support for the past several years.
In addition to overseeing the graduate programs at Salve Regina, Stapleton will be responsible for continuing education programs. The university has 13 master’s degree programs, a doctoral program in the humanities and a Doctor of Nursing program, according to the university website.
Stapleton has a bachelor’s degree from Bryant University, an MBA from Suffolk University and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from UMass Dartmouth.
