IYRS launching one-year marine systems program

NEWPORT – The International Yacht Restoration School is launching a new one-year program in marine systems this fall.

The IYRS Marine Systems Program will train students in installing, maintaining and troubleshooting onboard systems such as electrical, electronic, steering, plumbing and propulsion. It was developed with the American Boat & Yacht Council and the Rhode Island Marines Trades Association to meet the marine industry’s need for skilled workers and its desire to keep students up to date with the latest technology.

The courses have been individually offered at the school’s satellite facility in Bristol, but in the fall they will be incorporated into a full-time, one-year program.

“Working with ABYC and RIMTA has enabled us to develop a program that is truly built around industry needs,” said Terry Nathan, IYRS president, in a news release.

The school also offers a two-year accredited program in traditional boat building and restoration and continuing education courses.
