Jimenez to study Chinese at National Taiwan University next year

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Providence native and University of Rhode Island student Alexander Jimenez is preparing to study Chinese at National Taiwan University in Taiwan next year, according to a recent release from the school.

In a statement, Jimenez, now 25 years old, said, “I’m nervous and excited at the same time. That’s what big moves in your life do.”

The opportunity was made possible by scholarships from the Freeman-ASIA Scholarship, the Taiwan Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship and the Beatrice S. Demers Foreign Language Fellows fund.

Jimenez previously studied at Community College of Rhode Island from which he graduated in 2015 with a liberal arts degree. He will graduate from URI in May 2018 with degrees in Chinese and sociology, plans to attend law school and achieve an MBA or a doctorate in sociology.
