PROVIDENCE – The Junior League of Rhode Island Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes volunteerism, improvement of the community and the development of women in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts, announced its 2016-2017 League Award recipients on Monday.
- The Natalie Henderson Award was granted to Annette Riley of Providence. The award, recognizing a league member for their support of their fellows, was given to Riley for her 12-year service as office administrator for the League.
- The Community Service Award was given to Erin Herzog of Providence and Kate Murphy of Warwick. Both were recognized for co-chairing the League’s Community Outreach Committee and specifically their work on projects related to supporting youth as they mature and leave foster care.
- The President’s Award was granted to Betsy Smith of Warwick. The award signifies an extended commitment to the JLRI and significant contributions to the organization’s mission. Smith has served with the League for 23 years including as its president in 2002-2003.
Awards were bestowed upon the recipients at the League’s end of the year meeting May 23 at McCormick & Shmicks in Providence.

Founded in New York in 1901, the Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. is a national organization that volunteers and serves the communities of constituent chapters across the country. In Rhode Island, the group has worked most extensively on issues relating to children and the foster care system.
