JWU names McInnis provost

PROVIDENCE – Johnson & Wales University has named Kyle J. McInnis the university’s provost, JWU announced Monday.

McInnis, who has spent close to three decades working in higher education within the Bay State, will take over for Billye Auclair, who concludes her service as JWU’s provost in December, JWU said, and McInnis will hold the title of incoming provost until then. McInnis was the top candidate selected through a national search, according to JWU Chancellor Mim L. Runey in a statement.

JWU said McInnis previously served as vice president for graduate, research and learning innovations at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., since 2011. Before that, he taught at the University of Massachusetts Boston for 20 years.

McInnis’s career includes appointments as a research scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Cancer Center, Boston University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital Boston. His work, JWU said, focused on reducing health inequities in underserved communities.

In a statement, McInnis said he believes JWU’s eagerness for expanding “creative academic programs and building faculty scholarship is a perfect fit.”

“Because JWU is a recognized leader in experiential-based, real-world education, we will be ideally positioned to offer students a strong competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving job market across diverse disciplines,” McInnis said.
