Adam Brand, a lawyer with the Washington, D.C., firm of Akin, Gump, Strass, Hauer and Feld, has been selected to serve as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy, the office this weekend announced.

Brand’s first official day will be Jan. 2. His predecessor, Sean Richardson, had headed the Kennedy staff for four years before leaving serve as chief of staff to incoming Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

“I want to welcome Adam,” Kennedy said. “… With his knowledge of Congress and keen grasp of legislation, [Brand] will be a strong and steady cousnel on many of the policy issues key to our time. I look forward to working with him on behalf of all Rhode Islanders.

“We will all miss Sean’s skilled leadership and commitment to the people of the 1st District. He has been a trusted confidante and friend, and Senator Klobuchar is lucky to have him. I thank him for all that he’s done, and wish him well as he takes his experience and expertise to the Senate.”
