MIDDLETOWN – KVH Industries Inc., which manufactures high-performance sensors and integrated inertial systems for the defense and commercial markets, received $5.8 million in product orders and a $2.5 million defense contract, the company announced in a press release.
The $5.8 million in orders is for precision fiber-optic gyros, or FOGs, to be used by major remote weapons-systems manufacturers, which includes KVH’s single-axis DSP-3100. FOGs are used to provide stabilization and pointing applications.
“These new orders emphasize the value of our patented FOG technology and the proven performance of KVH FOG products in a wide range of defense and commercial applications,” said Jay Napoli, KVH vice president of FOG/OEM sales.
KVH has also started work on a $2.5 million engineering and services development project for a major U.S. defense prime contractor, enhancing KVH’s three-axis DSP-1760 FOG for use in a surveillance system. Work is expected to wrap up in the third quarter of 2018, according to the company.
