HOBOKEN, N.J. – A new poll released last week showed nearly a third of millennial respondents have used Venmo, a popular payment app, to pay for illicit drugs.

LendEdu, an online marketplace for student-loan refinancing services, conducted the poll after releasing a study of 500,000 Venmo transactions that showed the most popular types of transactions included payments for beer, pizza and fantasy football.

“LendEdu was intrigued by this idea of payments for taboo items being made over Venmo, so we ran a poll,” according to the website.

Of 1,217 millennial respondents, 32.6 percent said they had used Venmo for some type of drug, according to results. The margin of error was plus or minus 2.8 percent.

“One thing is for certain: Venmo has become a medium to make shady transactions, and a sizeable portion of millennials are using it for exactly that,” according to the website.

Venmo is a peer-to-peer payment service that was acquired by PayPal in 2013. A full rundown of the poll can be found HERE.
