Leonard first in N.E. to offer baldness-gene test

CRANSTON – Dr. Robert Leonard, founder and chief surgeon of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, announced recently that he is the first hair surgeon in New England to offer a new genetic test for male-pattern baldness.
“Fifty percent of men in America will be affected by genetic male-pattern baldness,” Leonard said in a news release. “This exciting new tool enables young people who may be concerned about hair loss to genetically view their ‘family tree.’ Then we can make informed decisions and be proactive in treating male-pattern baldness.”
Hereditary male-pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, is the most common form of hair loss, according to Leonard. The test enables patients to learn about their genetic predisposition (certain variations in their X chromosome) to balding before the age of 40. •
