Lifespan named to InformationWeek 500 list

PROVIDENCE – Lifespan has been named to the 2004 InformationWeek 500 list of “Top Innovators” for its use of technology. The health care network ranks among Fortune 500 companies such as General Electric Co., Hewlett-Packard Co., Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Citigroup Inc. and Marriott International.

The 16th annual InformationWeek 500 is a listing of “the most innovative users of business technology,” according to the magazine. Companies were selected based on management priorities, technology strategies, staffing initiatives and budget plans.

Lifespan has invested in technology at its three acute-care hospitals since 1996. It has implemented computerized physician order entry, a system designed to enhance patient safety while preventing medication errors, improving efficiency and reducing the need for duplicate tests. Lifelinks, a secure Web browser, allows physicians to access patient records from any desktop or laptop computer logged into the system. Another component of the technology, the Picture Archival Communications System, is in place at Lifespan’s acute-care hospitals, storing and sharing digital radiology images.

InsureMyTrip.com adds new service for agents

EAST GREENWICH – Online travel insurance provider InsureMyTrip.com, through its parent company IMT Services Corp, recently launched a new service called InsureMyTraveler. The service allows travel agents to use a single interface to communicate and conduct business with their travel insurance companies, allowing agents to rate, compare and purchase travel insurance online.

“What this all boils down to is a time and money proposition,” said Jim Grace, president of IMT Services, in a release. “The agents that have contacted us want to become more efficient and effective in their insurance offerings, saving both time and money in the expeditious completion of their travel insurance bookings.”

InsureMyTraveler is designed for travel agents who have multiple travel insurance companies and wish to utilize a single interface to conduct their business. The service has a one-time setup fee that collects a small percentage fee for every transaction booked through the site.
