PROVIDENCE – Lifespan Corp. is completing environmental remediation of contaminated soil at its property at 145 Globe St., in the Jewelry District, including the removal and capping of the soil. The former industrial site is now covered with crushed stone.

The 5.3-acre site was purchased by Rhode Island Hospital, an affiliate of the nonprofit hospital system, in September 2015.

The activity at the site, the former Victory Finishing Technologies plant, doesn’t mean that a development is imminent, according to Lifespan spokesman David Levesque.

“Lifespan does not have a plan solidified for the development of the property,” he said.

The property is going through final remediation for contaminated soil, he said, in an emailed message. The hospital system has worked closely with the R.I. Department of Environmental Management to develop a remediation plan, he said.

The work conducted by Providence-based Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. should be completed in October, he said.
