Mechanics Cooperative Bank has donated $3,000 to the Bridgewater Energy Assistance Fund to help local families pay for the cost of heating their homes.
“We understand how difficult it is right now for many families,” said Joseph T. Baptista Jr., Mechanics Cooperative Bank’s president and CEO.
“With such skyrocketing energy costs, the requests for assistance this winter have been staggering,” said Ron Adams, fund coordinator for Bridgewater Energy Assistance Fund. “We were nearly out of money when Mechanics Cooperative Bank stepped in to help.”
In addition to donations from area businesses and residents, the Bridgewater Energy Assistance Fund relies primarily on two annual fundraising golf tournaments: September’s Bridgewater Open and Thanksgiving weekend’s Turkey Trot, both held at Olde Scotland Links.
Mechanics Cooperative Bank is Massachusetts’ second-oldest cooperative bank, with four locations in Taunton, North Dighton and Bridgewater. The bank opened its Bridgewater location in November following its merger with Bridgewater Cooperative Bank.
