SUNSET FOR THE PAWSOX? Will talks with Worcester, Mass., officials about attracting the Boston Red Sox's AAA affiliate force the hand of state and local officials and make them work harder to keep the team in Rhode Island? / COURTESY PAWTUCKET RED SOX/KELLY O'CONNOR

The Pawtucket Red Sox leadership recently took a trip to Worcester, Mass., to begin talks with the city about potentially moving the minor league baseball team there. The trip north comes after the self-imposed period of exclusively negotiating with Pawtucket and the state ended without a deal to build a new stadium here. The PawSox still may stay in Pawtucket (or somewhere else in Rhode Island), but at the moment predicting their future home has become much more difficult.

There is no doubt that the team has a place in the hearts of Rhode Islanders, perhaps most strongly with the residents of Pawtucket. But just how powerful that connection is, as well as if the team also plays an important role in the economy of the city and the state, are questions that are not easy to answer. Do you think that the loss of the team to Worcester would be a major blow to the city and the state?
