PROVIDENCE – Leadership Rhode Island, a nonprofit leadership development organization, will receive the Excellence in Innovation Award from the Association of Leadership Programs at the organization’s national conference in Phoenix on Friday, LRI announced Tuesday.

LRI was chosen for its initiative “Make RI Stronger,” which sought to transform the Rhode Island workforce with positivity to combat the number of actively disengaged workers in Rhode Island reported in the 2013 State of the American Workplace Report.

“When we announced the statewide effort three years ago, many were doubtful we could accomplish the mission,” said Mike Ritz, executive director of Leadership Rhode Island. “I’m excited to accept this honor on behalf of over 2000 LRI alumni and the 10,000 Rhode Islanders who participated. This was LRI’s most ambitious effort ever. We are very proud of our results and honored to receive this national award from our leadership program peers.”

LRI cited the improvement in the Rhode Island’s rankings in the American Workplace Report as a testament to its success, such as the fact that Rhode Island has moved from No. 49 to being ranked No.1 for workplace performance measures in just one year.
