PROVIDENCE – Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch last week announced opposition to National Grid’s request to hike electricity distribution rates by 29 percent.
The utility’s proposed distribution rate hike would increase the average customer’s monthly bill by about 11 percent. If approved by the R.I. Public Utilities Commission, the average customer would pay $8.95 per month, Lynch said in a statement.
“Although I appreciate the actions it took in previous years … to hold distribution rates level, there is little question that [National Grid] has been and remains profitable. It is making money,” Lynch said.
The attorney general’s office routinely represents the R.I. Division of Public Utility Carriers in PUC rate hearings. •
