Mall eyes Koch Associates as newest tenant

Sweaters, handbags, children’s shoes, mutual funds, lunch or dinner – laser eye surgery. That’s right, all this at Providence Place.

Koch Eye Associates, headquartered in Warwick, has unveiled plans for the opening of the company’s sixth office, Koch Eye Laser Vision Center, to be located at Providence Place.

Scheduled to open in early 2000, the new facility will offer LASIK vision correction surgery.

Peter A. Koch, chief executive officer, said the center represents the first mall laser center in the Northeast and the second in the country. He said the company’s goal has always been to provide services where patients will feel comfortable.

“Opening a LASIK center at Providence Place was a natural step in the evolution of vision services in the state,” said Koch. “Public sentiment has challenged us to provide the services that are highly in demand, in an accessible locale. Providence Place is the perfect setting because it is centrally situated with unrestricted access and abundant parking.”

And while in one corner of the mall, visitors to Fire & Ice can watch their lunch or dinner being grilled, patrons are welcome at Koch Eye Associates to take in an eye surgery through glass windows.

“Our outstanding success with our existing LASIK program and the public’s interest has warranted that we bring the laser to the forefront of our practice and make it visible to the community,” said Koch.

Another feature of the mall facility is the fact that visitors are encouraged to stop in without an appointment for a free LASIK screening to determine if they are a viable candidate for the procedure.

Koch Eye Associates has locations in Warwick, Woonsocket, North Kingstown and Providence. The existing office on Dorrance Street, next to Providence City Hall, will continue to offer full services.

“With the increasing demand for LASIK vision correction, we feel a separate laser center is a necessity,” said Koch.
