FALL RIVER – The Maplecroft house, purchased by Lizzie Borden following her acquittal on murder charges in 1893, has sold for $600,000, Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty announced last week.

The house at 306 French St. is in one of Fall River’s most historic neighborhoods. It originally was listed at $849,900.

The house is restored to the period of the 1890s, when it was built. It is a Queen Anne style Victorian. The sale included furnishings and fixtures that had been curated to retain its original condition, according to Robert Rutley, of Taylor & Associates for Mott & Chace Sotheby’s, who represented the seller, Kristee Bates.

The buyer is Donald Woods, who owns the Fall River house where Borden’s father and stepmother were murdered. He operates that house as a bed and breakfast and plans to do the same with Maplecroft, according to the real estate company.
