NEW ORLEANS – Textron Marine & Land, an operating unit of Textron Systems Corp., yesterday announced it has been awarded a $2.8 million contract with the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command, to build four Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles.
Textron Marine & Land will build two six-person and two 10-person 4×4 wheeled vehicles, based on the Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) it now produces for the U.S. Army.
The initial four MRAPs are to be delivered for testing within 60 days; several other companies were also awarded contracts to build test vehicles.
The federal government eventually may order up to 4,100 MRAP production vehicles for the Marines and other services. “It’s an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract,” said Tom Walmsley, senior vice president and general manager at Textron Marine & Land.
