PROVIDENCE – Carrie M. Marsh has been named executive director of CommunityWorks RI, a community-development corporation formed by the July 1 merger of the Elmwood Foundation and Greater Elmwood Neighborhood Services.
Marsh previously served as urban designer for Portland, Maine. Prior to that, she worked as project planner for Providence’s Cornish Associates for 10 years.
“I believe that there will be a strong leadership role for CommunityWorks RI to play in the current economic climate, to mitigate impacts and create opportunities in the state’s urban neighborhood,” Marsh said in a statement last week. “My goal is to work with the organization to create models of innovative development and collaborative partnership that will lead to safe, stable and sustainable neighborhoods throughout Rhode Island.”
Marsh was a founding member of The Steel Yard and served as president of the West Broadway Neighborhood Association.
“The Board of CommunityWorks RI has chosen a leader whom we believe will bring the passion, persistence and enthusiasm that is needed to forge strong relationships with the staff, stakeholders and the wider community,” board President Maryclaire Knight said in a statement.
The merger that created CommunityWorks RI was intended to create efficiencies and to expand operations statewide.
CommunityWorks RI is an affiliate of the national NeighborWorks America, a nonprofit created by Congress in 1978. Its network of local advocacy and community development groups, in 50 states and Puerto Rico, aims to leverage the influence and knowledge of its 230-some member organizations to help build healthy communities nationwide.
