Mass. slated to lead N.E. in new industrial plants

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Massachusetts leads New England in planned industrial plant start-ups for 2008, according to information released last week by Industrial Info North America.
The Texas-based marketing group’s industrial plant database claims Massachusetts is scheduled to have 14 new plants open this year. Overall, New England is slated to see 56 new plants in the 2008 calendar year.
According to Industrial Info, the total planned investment for all sites throughout New England is $3.3 billion, or $50 million per site. Once all plants are fully operational, the region could see as many as 2,000 new jobs.
The majority of new plants scheduled to begin operation this year in New England will be in the industrial-manufacturing sector, which has 17 planned sites.
