“This is a terrific group of people to lead our local banking industry as board members, as well as being significant executives in their own markets,” said Daniel J. Forte, president and CEO of Mass Bankers. “We know that there are great opportunities ahead for our industry, as well as a fair share of challenges. All of these new members of the board will provide considerable expertise and talent, serving 69,000 employees locally in the banking industry, as well as a very large customer base.”

Sandra J. Pattie, president and CEO of BankNewport, is the only Rhode Islander to sit on the board. Michael A. Lee, managing director of Santander Bank, also sits on the board. Neither were up for reelection.

Murray will serve another three-year term.

O’Brien, with 37 years of experience in the financial-services industry, has been president of the Adams, Mass.-based bank since 2002.  He will chair the board that represents about 155 financial institutions throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Forte lauded O’Brien in a statement.

“[O’Brien] is highly regarded in our industry, has great knowledge and skill and, we are proud to say, is from western Massachusetts and the Berkshires,” Forte said.
