BRAINTREE, Mass. – The Mass. State Lottery posted a $903 million profit in fiscal 2010, an increase of 5.1 percent from the previous year, Mass. State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill announced this month.
In a statement, Cahill said that the lottery exceeded expectations through a combination of new games and a 15 percent decrease in spending. Profits from the Mass. Lottery are used to aid the state’s 351 cities and towns.
Cahill said that after posting a $859 million profit in 2009, the lottery initially projected a $814 million profit for 2010. •
