NEW BEDFORD – The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development has received a National Dislocated Worker Grant award of $784,648, the U.S. Department of Labor announced Monday.
The Labor Department approved the funds to assist approximately 138 workers affected by layoffs at High Liner Foods and Symmetry Medical, both located in New Bedford.
The grant will allow the Greater New Bedford Career Center to expand re-employment assistance to include individual assessments, case management, vocational counseling, job search techniques, training and supportive services.
National Dislocated Worker Grants, which are supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, provide resources to expand training and employment programs at the state and local levels to quickly re-employ laid-off workers as the result of unexpected economic events that lead to large job losses.
