McKee to give State of the State address Jan. 17

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Daniel J. McKee will give the annual State of the State address in the House chambers of the Statehouse on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m., according to a Dec. 28 letter from McKee’s chief of staff, Antonia Alphonso Jr. addressed to Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio and House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi.

The annual political tradition is McKee’s opportunity to outline in greater detail his administration’s vision for the next 12 months before Rhode Island lawmakers.

The letter also says McKee expects to submit his fiscal year 2024 budget proposal- the document outlining revenue plans and proposed expenditures, to the General Assembly on Jan. 19.

“Over the course of 2022 our state saw significant progress,” wrote Alphonso Jr., adding that “work remains to be done.”

“The governor continues to be dedicated to the strong partnership he shares with you and your colleagues in the General Assembly.”

McKee, who is now serving hi first full term as governor, was officially sworn-in as the state’s chief executive on Tuesday, where he gave a speech prioritizing raising personal incomes of taxpayers, improving educational outcomes of students in K to 12 public schools and potential tax cuts.
