Mechanics hires new senior VP of retail banking

Deborah A. Grimes has been named senior vice president of retail banking at Mechanics Cooperative Bank in Taunton. She will work to maintain retail banking accounts and grow deposits. Grimes is also a member and former vice president of Financial Women International, an organization committed to the advancement of women in financial services. She has a B.A. in political science from Rhode Island College.

PBN: How closely tied are your bank’s retail business and the strength of the local economy?
GRIMES: Our goal at Mechanics is to help customers reach their financial goals and assist them in making their dreams come true. It is this commitment and dedication to providing personalized assistance, along with the right products and services for consumers and businesses, that will continue to strengthen the economy.

PBN: As a member of Financial Women International, why do you consider it important for women to take on a bigger role in finance?
GRIMES: Women make up more than half of the working population, and oftentimes are the primary head of household.
I believe it is our responsibility, as active members in the community, to empower women with the necessary tools and resources to understand how their financial choices will impact their future. I’m proud to work for an organization that supports and encourages this type of volunteerism in the community.

PBN: How do you see yourself advancing the bank’s business?
GRIMES: Customer needs are evolving – we are all trying to do more, and time is at a premium. Although electronic means of banking will never take the place of personalized customer service, it is imperative that we continue to provide convenient, alternative choices, such as secure Internet banking, online bill payment and debit-card options. It’s my responsibility to continue introducing these types of delivery channels, which will propel Mechanics into the next phase of growth. •
