Dennis Michaud, the Brown University professor who launched a primary challenge to Gov. Donald L. Carcieri, failed to qualify for September’s ballot, according to the R.I. Secretary of State’s Web site.
Michaud failed to obtain the 1,000 signatures necessary to appear on the ballot. According to the Web site, Michaud submitted 933 signatures.
The development means that the only candiates running for governor this year are Carcieri and Lt. Gov. Charlie Fogarty.
Two other candidates who had declared for the race also failed to qualify for the ballot. Fernando Marcella, of Lincoln, and Gregory Raposa, of Bristol, both failed to submit signatures to the Secretary of State’s office. Both were running as independents.
