More than 50 Hope kids complete internships

PROVIDENCE – Local business leaders and city and school officials gathered recently to celebrate the accomplishments of Project Hope, a summer jobs program for students from Hope High School.

Now in its fourth year, the program offers Hope students an opportunity to gain work experience, develop skills and learn about employers’ expectations by interning at local businesses. More than 50 Hope students and more than 20 companies participated in the program. All were honored at a Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce event Sept. 28.

To qualify, students had to first complete a Junior Achievement Success Skills course; they were then placed in companies for six weeks, earning an average of $8.50 an hour.
