4. Lardaro: Despite encouraging signs, R.I. in a recession POSTED ONLINE: DEC. 12. Even though the economy showed signs of improvement in September, Rhode Island is in a recession, University of Rhode Island economist and professor Leonard Lardaro said on Dec. 12 in his monthly Current Conditions Index report.
