Bioassay Laboratory: Our Ivy League educated scientists have over a decade of experience in designing, running and analyzing a broad range of experimental assays. This includes, but is not limited to rapid screening assays, microbiology, cytotoxicity, proliferation, differentiation, and cell signaling.

MSA has four biosafety hoods, eight CO2 incubators, two -80C cold storage refreezes, -4C refrigeration and high capacity liquid nitrogen storage capabilities. We have an array of digital microscopes, a Nicolet 6700 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer with an attenuated total reflectance module (FTIR-ATR) for chemical analysis and a FlexStation 3 Multimode microplate reader for bioassays. The FlexStation 3 Microplate Reader high-efficiency monochromator optics are tunable for absorbance, fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, and time-resolved fluorescence assays. It also has a dedicated photomultiplier tube for luminescence assays.

Retrieval, Analysis & Storage: We have validated systems and facilities for medical materials retrieval, storage and analysis. Our associates have analyzed nearly one thousand retrieved medical implant components and devices using state-of-the-art digital microscopy, low vacuum capable scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface chemical analysis by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) using a large window IXRF Systems, Silicon Drift Detector (SDD). The system allows us to perform rapid imaging based analysis on chemical composition or EDS mapping of implants/explants and various materials. We have contracted with Hexagon Metrology to use high precision coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to measure dimensional tolerances as well changes from wear and corrosion. We have an array of precision digital and analog metrology instruments. This also gives us the capabilities to determine surface roughness and quantify porosity.

3D CAD/CAM, Video Analysis & Prototyping: We have capabilities to utilize advanced metrology techniques for analysis of medical implants and devices using our in-house research white light 3D scanning system, equipped with advanced meshing software and CAD/CAM capabilities. As a licensed mechanical engineering firm, we have state-of-the-art computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) capabilities connected to an advanced computer workstation enabled with a 12Gb Quadro K6000 GPU for 3D renderings, design and video analysis. We have in-house a research 3D printer for rapid prototyping and access to additional precision 3D printing at R&D Technologies located within our park.

Wet laboratory: We have wet-laboratory capabilities with a full array of glassware, chemical storage, and flammable storage. These areas include analytical balances, hot and cold circulating baths, ultrasonic cleaner and dry incubators. We have multiple vacuum pumps, nitrogen gas, CO2 and compressed air capabilities.

Animal Facilities: MSA has access to vivarium space co-localized within the accredited animal facilities of BRIDGE PTS, Inc. All work is carried out under IACUC-approved protocols in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
