PROVIDENCE – Richard B. Myrus has been named acting U.S. attorney for the District of Rhode Island, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

Myrus had previously served as first assistant U.S. attorney for the district under U.S. Attorney Steven G. Dambruch. Dambruch stepped down Wednesday to join the R.I. Department of the Attorney General as criminal division chief under new R.I. Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.

Myrus was appointed as an assistant U.S. attorney in May 2007, as civil division chief in 2014 and first assistant U.S. attorney in January 2018.

Myrus’ appointment was pursuant to the Vacancies Reform Act.
