
PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island rose 3 cents this week, matching their highest point this year that was set in January, AAA Northeast said Monday.
Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.36 a gallon, 7 cents below the national average of $2.43 a gallon. The price of gasoline in Rhode Island has risen 20 cents from last year.

The national average is the highest it has been all year, and AAA cautions that summer demand has not kicked in, meaning consumers can expect the price at the pump to continue to rise for coming weeks.
Prices in Rhode Island for unleaded regular range 21 cents, from $2.25 to $2.46 a gallon.
Gasoline prices in Massachusetts rose 4 cents this week, with regular, self-serve unleaded gas averaging $2.33 a gallon. Bay State gas prices are 10 cents below the national average. Gas prices in Massachusetts also have risen 20 cents from this time last year.
The range in prices for regular unleaded in Massachusetts is 31 cents, from a low of $2.19 to a high of $2.50 a gallon.
AAA attributes the recent national rise in gas prices to increasing demand at the start of the spring and summer driving season and notes that AAA is monitoring OPEC’s attempt at sustained production cuts and its effect on crude oil prices.
