SMITHFIELD – Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island paid tribute to military veterans and their families with a series of initiatives throughout the month of November, which is recognized as National Veterans and Families Month.

“We owe so much to our veterans, those currently serving and to their families for the sacrifices they’ve made to protect our country,” said Peter Marino, CEO and president of Neighborhood Health. “I am incredibly proud of the many ways our employees step up every year during Veterans and Families Month to pay homage to them.”

Neighborhood Health kicked off the month with a ceremony in which hundreds of staff members gathered to present a $1,500 donation to Operation Stand Down Rhode Island on behalf of the health insurer’s Military Employee Resource Group and other employees who are veterans. The company later held a Thanksgiving food drive to support the Rhode Island National Guard Military Family Program Holiday Assistance Food Baskets Drive, an initiative that filled 50 food baskets for military families. Lastly, Neighborhood Health’s Military ERG held a “Lunch & Learn” on the mission, structure, history and values of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Each initiative “was designed to engage the organization’s employees in celebrating and thanking military service members and their families,” Neighborhood Health said.
