EAST GREENWICH – Aspiring video game designers and developers take note: New England Institute of Technology has made The Princeton Review’s list of the top 50 programs for game design.
NEIT was No. 29, based on data the education-services company collected in a 2018 survey of administrators at 150 institutions that offer game-design courses in the United States, Canada and abroad.
The criteria considered by The Princeton Review included the quality of the curriculum, the credentials of faculty members, technology used in courses and career achievements of graduates.
East Greenwich-based New England Tech was the only local school to appear on the list.
The school offers two game-related degree programs: video game design and game development and simulation programming.
“NEIT faculty work closely with industry experts to ensure our curriculum offers the knowledge and technical skills sought after by today’s employers,” Douglas H. Sherman, the school’s senior vice president and provost, said in a news release. “Our hands-on approach to learning, high tech gaming labs, expert faculty and exciting on-campus gaming events prepare our students well as they enter this competitive field.”
The University of Southern California was ranked No. 1, and New York University and Becker College in Worcester, Mass., appeared No. 2 and No. 3.
Other Massachusetts schools on the list included Hampshire College (No. 5), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (No. 9), Northeastern University (No. 38) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (No. 39).
