NEW BEDFORD – Perfect Pizza Inc., a Domino’s Pizza franchisee that has two locations in the city, has won the 2009 Greater New Bedford Small Business of the Year Award.

The award was presented by the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce and BankFive at the Chamber’s Good Morning SouthCoast business event on May 13. It was accepted by Perfect Pizza owner Nelson Hockert-Lotz.

Hockert-Lotz founded Perfect Pizza in 1984 when he built the first Domino’s on the South Coast on Kempton Street in New Bedford, according to the Chamber. He built a second location on Rockdale Avenue four years later.

The Chamber said it chose to honor Hockert-Lotz not only for his business success but also because of Perfect Pizza’s support for community groups, including SMILES Mentoring, Operation Clean Sweep, the HOPE Collaborative, the SouthCoast Education Compact, and the Greater New Bedford Youth Council.
