New members join I-195 Redevelopment District Commission

PROVIDENCE – The I-195 Redevelopment District Commission has gained two new members.

They are Brendan P. Doherty, head of the special investigative unit of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and a former R.I. State Police superintendent, and Marc Crisafulli, the president of Rhode Island operations for Twin River Worldwide Holdings Inc., including overseeing Twin River Casino Hotel and Tiverton Casino Hotel.

Their first meeting was last month, following confirmation by the state Senate.

Doherty is taking the seat of Commissioner Edwin Santos, who is chairman of the board of CharterCARE Health Partners, which is affiliated with Roger Williams Medical Center and several other Rhode Island hospitals.

Crisafulli is filling a seat vacated by Elizabeth “Beppie” Huidekoper, who retired in 2014 as executive vice president for finance and administration at Brown University. Both Santos and Huidekoper joined the I-195 commission in 2015.

Doherty spent most of his investigative career focused on public corruption and organized crime. He now oversees a unit at Blue Cross responsible for investigating insurance fraud.

Crisafulli is the former general counsel for GTech Corp., now International Game Technology PLC.
