WARWICK – Students of the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center unveiled their final license plate design of Rocky Point Park Tuesday.

The new plates will sell for $41.50. Proceeds from the plate sales will be split between the R.I. Division of Motor Vehicles ($21.50) and the Rocky Point Foundation ($20) for programming and preservation activities for the 124-acre park.

The final design of the plate was a collaboration between three individually designed plates that garnered equally strong support in a vote. The three artists behind the design are Anthony Lescarbeau of West Warwick High School, Skye Whelpley of West Warwick High School (graduated) and Meaghan Marcus of Toll Gate High School.

“Throughout recent years, the city of Warwick has been successfully working with numerous local and state agencies to revive this historic park, which evokes many pleasant memories of our childhood. The ability to purchase a Rocky Point license plate is another unique way to pay tribute to this iconic piece of Warwick’s history and increase awareness of the legacy and historic significance of the park in our community while helping to raise funds to support the park’s future,” said Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian.

If the plate fails to receive 900 orders by March 31, 2018, the plate will not be pressed and money will be refunded.

But Rocky Point Foundation President John Howell thinks that is not likely.

“I’d be surprised if that happens,” he said. “The already registered 800 people registered as Friends of Rocky Point during the earlier poll will be emailed notices of the plates, along with a link to the website where they can be ordered.”

Currently, only online orders and payments are being accepted at www.rockypointplate.com.
