NEWPORT – A former carriage house for a grand estate in Newport has sold for $6.99 million, according to Teri Degnan Real Estate & Consulting Ltd., which represented the buyer.
The property at 294 Ocean Ave., called “The Playhouse” is located on the edge of Price’s Neck Cove, according to Degnan, who said her clients wanted a coastal house that was spacious without being overwhelming. The property has a four-bedroom house on a half-acre.

It once served as the carriage house for the Wildacre estate, which was built for a brother of the famed landscape architect Fredrick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park in New York and the Emerald Necklace in Boston.
The property sellers, listed in property records as the David P. Vieau Revocable Trust and the Joann P. Vieau Revocable Trust, were represented by Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty.
The buyer was not immediately identifiable.
The property was assessed at $4.1 million in its most recent valuation conducted in 2018.
