PROVIDENCE – Newport Hospital’s Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund has awarded a total of $23,000 to three local organizations that enhance the lives of children throughout Newport County by promoting active lifestyles, education and fun.

The grants to local programs and organizations began in 2010 when Elizabeth Prince of Newport and her children Guillaume de Ramel, Diana Oehrli and Regis de Ramel conferred upon Newport Hospital a $3 million grant from the Frederick Henry Prince 1932 Trust.

The Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund was established in partnership with Newport Hospital to provide activities to school-age children who do not have access to other programs.

To date, nearly $400,000 has been awarded to area groups focused on activity, participation and innovative initiatives that emphasize improving fitness levels and self-discipline while discouraging the use of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.
