Nortek CEO to receive 2007 Gold Heart Award

PROVIDENCE – Nortek Inc. Chairman and CEO Richard L. Bready will be honored with the 2007 Gold Heart Award, “for his exemplary dedication and commitment to heart health in the Ocean State,” the American Heart Association announced today.
“Children shouldn’t have to worry about ‘adult’ problems like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol,” Bready said in a statement today. “That’s why I’m proud to support an organization that helps Rhode Island families live longer, heart-healthy lives.”
When he made a $100,000 contribution to the AHA on behalf of Nortek earlier this year, he reserved a portion of the gift for the Healthy Children’s Campaign.
Besides the heart association, Bready’s philanthropic efforts have included support for the YMCA of Greater Providence, Brown University, the Moses Brown School, the Gordon School, Lifespan, the Providence Performing Arts Center and Trinity Repertory Company.
He is chairman of the board of Roger Williams University, and is a trustee and major benefactor of St. Anselm College in New Hampshire, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics. Bready also has a master’s degree in accounting from Northeastern University and an honorary doctorate of business administration from Johnson & Wales University.
“The American Heart Association and the Rhode Island community as a whole owe tremendous gratitude for Mr. Bready’s leadership and generosity,” Pamela Bhatia, executive director of the AHA’s Rhode Island Division, said in a statement. “We’re very much looking forward to honoring him in December.”
The award will be presented at the 13th annual Gold Heart Award Luncheon, slated for Dec. 5 at the R.I. Convention Center.
