KIM NUNES HAS mixed feelings about dessert.
Having recently opened
Teddy’s Candy Bar and More LLC, Nunes spent the last few months surrounded by pounds of fudge and packages of sprinkle-topped confections as she readied her Barrington storefront for its May opening.
“Sometimes I want to try everything, and other times I am like, ‘Oh my God, no,’ ” Nunes said.
Teddy’s, which is named for Nunes’ late father, Teddy Borges, is her second act as a sweets shop owner. Twenty years separate her latest venture from her first experience owning a candy store in a now-demolished Riverside storefront in East Providence. Despite the time lapse, the mainstays of the sugar world remain mostly the same, Nunes said.
One major change: packaging is a must. The clear containers of pay-by-the-pound penny candies have lost their luster in a more germ-focused, post-pandemic world.
Also new are the host of gluten-free, vegan and other allergen- and diet-friendly offerings, as well as specialty dog treats in a nod to the booming pet industry.
Teddy’s welcomes walk-in customers Tuesday-Saturday and takes call-ahead orders for special events.
