MIDDLETOWN – The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport Acquisition Workload Planning Tool Version 2.0 Team recently won the Innovation in Contracting Award from the National Contracts Management Association.

The AWPT V2 is an automated tool that helps all departments at the NUWC Division Newport plan and execute contracting portfolios, the center said in a news release. Estimated annual labor savings from this effort exceeds $380,000 and 5,200 work hours, giving information-sharing a boost as well, according to NUWC.

The AWPT V2 also earned recognition by the larger U.S. Navy community. The Naval Sea Systems Command contracts organization inspects every warfare center’s contracting department as part of the Procurement Surveillance Program. Division Newport’s PSP inspection identified six best practices – the AWPT V2 being one of the six – that will be shared across the warfare center enterprise.
