PROVIDENCE – Deborah M. O’Brien has been named the new president of The Providence Center, effective April 1.
“We feel very fortunate to have Deb leading us in this turbulent health care environment,” James Botvin, president of the organization’s Board of Trustees, said in a statement on Thursday. “She knows that everything we do is built from the ground up, beginning with the highest quality services for everyone we serve and with innovation that comes from the staff members who are on the front lines of providing this service.”
O’Brien, the organization’s third president since its founding in 1969, joined The Providence Center as director of quality improvement in 1995. Most recently, she was vice president and chief operating officer, according to The Providence Center’s website.
She earned her bachelor’s in nursing in 1985 and her master’s in public administration in 1996, both from the University of Rhode Island. She previously held positions at South Shore Mental Health Center (Rhode Island) and Rhode Island Hospital.
O’Brien said she is honored to take on this new leadership role. She replaces Dale K. Klatzker, who will transition to a position as senior vice president of population health at Care New England. Three years ago, TPC became an affiliate of the Care New England health system.
