As they rumble up the highway, Ocean State Job Lot’s trucks, decked out with cheerful cartoon frogs, are a familiar Rhode Island sight. What’s less well known is how the family-owned discount retail chain based in North Kingstown invests in its employees despite its sheer size: more than 2,500 employees and more than 170 stores across the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic regions.
All associates, regardless of insurance status, are offered 12 free virtual medical visits and 12 free virtual mental health visits annually through Accolade Care, fully covered by the company.
Job Lot also believes in the value of connecting with local communities. In 2026, its charitable foundation launched the Mission Kitchen program, a food trailer staffed by associates who bring meals to the Providence community.
