One Ocean Exploration Zone opens Sat. at Newport race village

NEWPORT – The One Ocean Exploration Zone – Presented by 11th Hour Racing – is opening Saturday as part of the Newport Race Village for the Volvo Ocean Race.

The One Ocean Exploration Zone is a hands-on educational experience designed to enhance ocean literacy, broaden awareness of stressors facing the marine environment, and educate vistors on conservation and sustainability efforts locally and globally.

The OOEZ opens Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and will remain open until Sunday May 20. The opening time of the educational area varies between 10 and 11 a.m. depending on the day of the week.

Admissions is free for all ages. This year, the area has more than 20 exhibitors.

The exploration zone will kick off with a half hour event at Fort Adams State Park, inside the Fort on the Parade Field, with speakers including Vestas 11th Hour Skipper Charlie Enright and team founder Mark Towill.
