JOHNSTON – Local, state and company officials joined in announcing plans by West Chester, Pa.-based transportation and logistics firm A. Duie Pyle Inc. to build a 47,000-square-foot distribution facility and 20,000-square-foot warehouse in Johnston.

Joining company CEO Peter Latta for the announcement yesterday afternoon at Johnston Town Hall were Gov. Donald L. Carcieri, Mayor Joseph Polisena and officials from the R.I. Economic Development Corporation and R.I. Department of Labor & Training.

The $11.6 million facility – in the town’s new industrial park next to the R.I. Resource Recovery Corporation facility, off Shun Pike – is to be constructed in two phases. The distribution center will be built in phase one, the company said, and the warehouse, offices and fleet maintenance space will follow in phase two.

“By investing more than $11 million in our state and creating 120 good-paying, full-time jobs,” Carcieri said, “A. Duie Pyle is helping to move our economy forward.”

Over the next three years, A. Duie Pyle said it will hire at least 120 full-time and 20 part-time workers to staff the distribution hub, working with the DLT to recruit from within the state. An estimated 113 full-time construction jobs will be created during the project, the governor’s office added.

“The Johnston Town Council and my office have worked diligently over the last few months to bring economic development to the Town of Johnston,” Polisena said. “I would like to thank the governor’s office, the Economic Development Corporation, and the General Assembly for assisting us with this project.”

Construction for phase one is expected to begin this spring. The project has been approved by the EDC’s board of directors, but final approval is subject to passage of a joint resolution by the R.I. General Assembly.

A. Duie Pyle – founded in 1924 as a one-man, one-truck operation – has 12 hubs serving the Northeast, Southeast and eastern Canada. Additional information is available at www.ri.gov and www.pyleco.com.
