Pappano takes command of Naval Undersea Warfare Center

NEWPORT – Rear Adm. Scott W. Pappano assumed command of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center during a recent ceremony held at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

In addition to the division in Newport, NUWC includes a second division in Keyport, Wash., as well as the Naval Sea Logistics Center, which is part of the Keyport division.

The NAVSEA Warfare Centers include the NUWC and the Surface Warfare Center, or NSWC, which is located in Washington, D.C., and make up about 30 percent of U.S. Navy engineering and scientific efforts.

According to a news release, Pappano relieved Rear Adm. Moises DelToro III, commander of NUWC since mid-2015, who retired.

A native of Bethlehem, Pa., Pappano was most recently the director of a comprehensive test facility at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division.

Pappano has a Master of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in nuclear engineering and has served at sea and ashore, including as military assistant to the assistant secretary of defense for international security policy.
